Once the most important harbor in the Mediterranean Sea, Genoa has a long history as a rich and powerful trade center in northern Italy.
Museo Diocesano Chiostro dei Canonici di San Lorenzo and Musei di Strada Nuova - Palazzo Bianco will appeal to museum buffs. Get in touch with nature at Hike the Punta Manara and Baia del Silenzio. Venture out of the city with trips to Grotte di Borgio Verezzi (in Borgio Verezzi) and Varigotti Beach (in Varigotti). Take a train from Genoa to Cinque Terre in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Genoa in May, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be little chillier in Cinque Terre, with lows of 52°F.
