Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Belém Tower and Mosteiro dos Jeronimos are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore and learn at Museu Nacional do Azulejo and Museu Calouste Gulbenkian. Take a break from Lisbon with a short trip to Castelo dos Mouros in Sintra, about 42 minutes away. There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Castelo de S. Jorge, pause for some serene contemplation at Church and Convent of Madre de Deus, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Igreja de Sao Roque, and wander the streets of Alfama.
