Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Kick off your visit on the 4th (Wed): do a tasting at Pocas Vinhos, take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, admire the striking features of Palacio da Bolsa, take in the spiritual surroundings of Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), then shop like a local with Livraria Lello, and finally admire the masterpieces at Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis. On the 5th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: pause for some photo ops at Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular, contemplate the waterfront views at Douro River, and then take a stroll through Rua Santa Catarina.

Kids will appreciate attractions like Lisbon Oceanarium and Belém Tower. Do your shopping at Museu Calouste Gulbenkian and Rossio Square. Go for a jaunt from Lisbon to Sintra to see Quinta da Regaleira about 36 minutes away.
