National Museum of Scotland combines one museum on Scottish antiquities, culture, and history and another on technology, natural history, and world cultures to create one of Britain's best facilities for learning and discovery. The overall collection is vast, so look at a map before visiting and choose the galleries you most want to see. A few of the many highlights include a Tyrannosaurus rex fossil, a mummy mask, and numerous objects that once belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots. Entrance to the museum is free, and you can check items in the cloakroom for a small fee. Check the daily schedule of free themed tours before visiting to see if any interest you. The Museum Brasserie and the Balcony Cafe both serve food and drink. Plan a Edinburgh trip in moments using our itinerary builder.

Its absolutely beautiful building, very light and airy. Lots to see and it's not overly busy even when it's a wet day. It's very well aimed at younger kids and families. Very informative and has a bit of everything, which is great. Staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and always willing to assist. Getting into the museum was very simple, no queue and for once, a place that's not going to stop and search every bit of you. It's free and the gift shops, are fairly priced. It's just a really great experience and would very happily go over and over again.

An amazing space. A few hours isn’t enough time to do justice to this museum. Could easily do this on a couple of visits., great to escape the drizzle! There’s so much to see and do. High levels of interactivity to keep all ages interested and occupied. It’s amazing that this is a free facility. I recommend you make a donation when you are there.
