Ironbridge Gorge Museums reviews
Iron Museum was fascinating, especially the interwoven histories of the founders of the area. Spent about 3 hours. Furnace cafe very good. Also went to the Tile Museum but ran out of time... more »
Booked on line which was a little confusing, £20 but the ticket is valid for a year as only Blist Hill open due to Covid19. It is very well set out and plenty of activities to see. Fish and chips... more »
We went to the indoor part as it was raining. It was really good for the kids. It was a science centre and we spent 2 hours there. So many practical activities. The main attraction was a giant hydroelectric dam model that included lots of wet play. There is also a soft play area for toddlers. Overall the place is highly suitable for kids from toddlers to year 6 I'd say. Cafe and vending machines too. Gift shop has educational and fun stuff. Sweets too.
The museum is good, it's worth taking the time to visit on your Gorge entry ticket if you have the time. But don't miss the (free to visit) remains of the furnace at the other end of the car park; the place where modern iron and steel processing began - and thus that influences pretty much every aspect of our modern lives. It's really quite a significant place! If that is lost on the kids then don't forget to take them to Enginuity (behind the museum) - probably one the adults can skip but hands on fun for those still at school.
