The complex boasts more than 800 exhibits--many of them interactive--representing diverse subjects, such as energy, environment, transportation, and space. Travel under the earth into the museum's exact replica of a 1933 Illinois coal mine, or head to the transportation wing to view a World War II German U-505 submarine and a replica of the first plane used by the Wright Brothers. Don’t miss the Apollo 8 aircraft that carried the first humans to orbit the moon and a retired United 727. Ask at the entrance about the always-fascinating temporary exhibits (additional fee). • I went here as a kid and remember it being awesome. This time we didn't even but tickets, they are crazy expensive and they want 20 bucks to park in the garage on top. The basic museum cost is pricey and if you want to do anything extra there it cost more, like the submarine, it cost extra. The only way it's cost effective is if you are a member and go more than once, but that doesn't work when you are just visiting for the day.
  • This museum was a real treat. They had many interesting exhibits. It was fun to see some things that were in the museum when I was a kid next to the new stuff. I really appreciate how they are always working to bring something new into the museum. You can easily spend an entire day here. I highly recommend this place for people with kids. It isn't as interactive as a children's museum, but it isn't as hands-off as many other museums we've been to. They have a good mix to keep kids engaged. We will definitely visit again.
