  • House and tour were very interesting. Would do it again. Our tour guide was an actor representing the oldest daughter and she kept in character through the whole tour. Really enjoyed the trip  more »

  • I am on a historical site frenzy and The Mark Twain House certainly lived up to my expectations as being a fantastic site to visit. The tour was very informative and my guide was thoroughly knowledgeable about the Clemens family and especially about the great humorist and author Samuel Clemens. There are plenty of original pieces inside the home as well as restored furnishings. One is not allowed to take pictures inside the house (as I was able to at The John Adams home in Quincy, Massachusetts) and the price is $20 but don't let that deter you from visiting ths amazing historical home of a truly remarkable American. Highly recommended!
  • As a lover of literature and Twain especially, I'm a little biased, but in my opinion, the Mark Twain house and museum is one of the most interesting landmarks in New England. It's such an amazingly well-preserved piece of American history and is also just a really unique house and experience. The museum is very thorough with its artifacts and details about Sam Clemens and his family's lives. The house itself is a marvel of architecture as well as interior design. It's a wonderful way to see how people lived back in that time and to get a sense of one of the most influential writers and American figures in history. Additionally, the staff and docents who run the museum and tours are exceptional. They will go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your time there and can answer practically any question about Clemens, his family, or life in that region and time. Plus, most of them are humorists like Twain and will make it a fun experience for all. It might not be the best for small kids or dullards, but it's the best such experience in the Northeast. There are quite a few places in this region where you can step backwards in time to see a snapshot of how life used to be, but the Twain house is by far the most enjoyable and interesting way to get a glimpse of an American experience and a truly special slice of our nation's history.
