Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, Hyde Park

The first presidential library built in the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum was conceived when Franklin D. Roosevelt decided that a separate property was needed to house his large collection of historical documents, books, and papers. The library's research facilities and traditional study were converted to a high-tech interactive exhibit space in the 21st century, but Roosevelt's personal study has remained unchanged. Roosevelt spent many hours in the study organizing important documents, and even delivered his radio fireside chats from the room. This library set the precedent for the Presidential Libraries Act in 1955, stating that each president's papers and documents should be stored in one place for public access. Consider purchasing a reduced-price combined ticket to the library and the FDR house in nearby Hyde Park. Plan your Franklin D. • Very worth a visit. We went for 2 hours, 1 on the house tour, 1 in the library/museum. Could spend much more time in the museum. We will go back before the D Day exhibit closes in January 2020. The house will be under renovation beginning in 2020 so call ahead to be sure uts open when you go. Even if it is not it is still worth going. We have been to Pearl Harbor and The Churchill War Room where FDR is prominent. Clearly he was one of the most impactful Presidents ever. His homestead and library is a national treasure. Highly recommend.
  • this place is a waste of money. they shouldn't charge for this at all. if you like his history i guess its interesting. if you go there because you shoot photos - its a waste. a couple of enigma machines, his car behind glass, his office (2 of 3 of them anyway). there wasn't anything there... that said though, you have to visit the bathroom in the basement, i think there are 4, handicap bathroom, you get a private room, big enough to back your car into. i don't know why its that big, but its quite nice.
