ABOUT RUSSIAN HILL NEIGHBORS:

WHO WE ARE:

A nonprofit neighborhood organization established in 1981 to encourage friendly association among Russian Hill neighbors and merchants and to respond to neighborhood concerns.

An all-volunteer organization with all projects accomplished through volunteer efforts of members.

Nearly 500 members who are neighbors and merchants residing east to west between Mason/Columbus and Van Ness and north to south from North Point to Pacific.

WHAT WE DO:

Develop a Sense of Community by bringing people together to

• Meet their neighbors

• Discuss neighborhood issues

• Enjoy social events

Protect Quality of Life on Russian Hill

• Promote safety

• Alert neighbors to security concerns

• Improve the physical environment

• Monitor construction and planning issues

• Address traffic issues

• Prepare for emergencies

• Beautify the neighborhood

Preserve Russian Hill History

• Encourage members to participate in gathering and preserving historical materials that pertain to Russian Hill

• Protect historic buildings in our neighborhood

• Communicate with our Members

HOW WE DO IT:

Meet Your Neighbors

• Walks and private docent tours

• Semi-annual general meetings

• Volunteer recognition party

• New member party

• "Cheers" Happy Hours (the last Monday of every month)

• Dinners at neighborhood restaurants and other social events

• Community projects (park work days, school volunteers, utilities undergrounding, etc.)

• Special interest groups (books, bridge, etc.)

Promote Quality of Life

• Address traffic and parking issues

• Represent neighbors in proposed Design and Zoning issues

Promote Neighborhood Improvement

• Quarterly broom brigades

• Neighborhood garden projects

• NERT Training (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team)
