Originated as one of the first black Baptist congregations in North America, First African Baptist Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The organization's beginning dates back to 1773, when African American slaves and freemen organized during the turmoil of the American Revolution, and the church was officially founded in 1777.     The tour was one of my favorites when I visited Savannah. You're taken back in time as you listen to stories of the Underground Railroad and walk through the halls of the church. Everything is well....  more »

    I absolutely loved the tour. The tour guide, De’Air/De’Eric (didn’t quite catch his name) did an amazing job. He was extremely knowledgeable. I consider myself well informed on Black History. He gave me new things to consider. I left in even more awe of the accomplishments of Blacks. They’ve made such contributions to our society. I also had the pleasure of attending service there. Although it was a bit dated I enjoyed being transported to the late 70s for s traditional service.

    This was my favorite place to visit in Savannah. Traci did s great job with the history of the church. The church is beautiful. I will come back next time we are there. God bless!
