This is a wonderful example of the commitment of the National Park Service to preserve national historic sites. This Historical Site includes not only Lincoln's Springfield Home (with free tours all day!) but the entire 2 block radius around his home. You can tour 2 other homes and walk the streets. There is a free audio guide via your cell phone and a wonderful visitor center showing 2 movies about Abraham Lincoln and his time in Springfield. My girls immediately picked up Junior Ranger books and completed the activities. There are great covered picnic tables. Parking is $2/hour. We stayed 3 hours. Note: if you are interested in Lincoln's time in office in Washington, you will NOT get that here. This site focuses in Lincoln's time in Springfield. Most tours/movies/audio guides end as Lincoln leaves Springfield on a train.
Very well restored. The woman who was our tour guide said she'd been studying about Mary Lincoln and would give us a "different" tour then the usual. It focused on Mary Lincoln. Her role as a support to her husband and as a keeper of the house. It was a wonderful point of view that was not expressed at any of the other places we visited. So it was not a repeat of other information we received. I commend her and recommend this tour.
