St. Joseph Plantation, Vacherie

4.5
Built circa 1830, St. Joseph has been in our family since 1877 when purchased by Joseph Waguespack.

135 years later, St. Joe continues to operate as a working sugar cane planation.

When touring, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that your tour guide is a direct descendant of Joseph Waguespack.

Located on Hwy. 18 (River Rd.) we are nestled between our neighbors, Laura Plantation and Oak Alley, which is only steps away.

  • We enjoyed our visit! I used to shuttle people from New Orleans to the various plantations, for over 6 years. I had never stopped at Saint Joseph's. No 'flash" and "pizzazz", or overly commercialized presentations like Oak Alley or some others. Our guide was knowledgeable, informative, and intuitive. She didn't rush us along, encouraged us to look at the exhibits and take pictures, and took time to answer our questions. She made us feel like guests in her own home. There is a brief presentation about the history of sugar cane in Louisiana, and a wonderful tour of the main home. There are several other buildings on the grounds to explore. I recommend a stop. My only regret is that we didn't take more pictures.
  • Really loved this tour! I thought it would make me uncomfortable & I wouldn't like it, but I was happily proved wrong. Our tour guide was wonderful! I'm pretty sure his name was Jacob. He is a great tour guide & really made me feel welcome bc I'm a local as well as those visiting from out of state!
