Declared a National Heritage Site in 2001, Van Buuren Museum showcases an impressive collection of over five centuries of art housed within an Art Deco house. Wander the rooms filled with both masterpieces and lesser-known works by Vincent van Gogh, James Ensor, Pieter Jansz Saenredam, Rik Wouters, and many others. David van Buuren was the patron of the Belgian artist Gustave van de Woestijne, who showed his gratitude by contributing to the couple's collection. Almost every piece of decor and furniture have been designed by Belgian and Dutch artisans--note the carpets in the living room designed by Jaap Gidding, and a 500 kg (1,100 lb) chandelier by Jan Eisenloeffel. Don't miss the landscaped gardens with their hedges, trees, and walkways--works of art in and of themselves. You can reach the attraction by exiting the tram at Churchill in the Uccle District. The museum operates on a limited schedule, check for opening times before you arrive. The Museum Van Buuren is a hidden germ in Brussels. The architecture of the house is absolutely amazing. The mediation of the museum is great and the staff is very friendly. I also love that they invite contemporary artists to present art in the garden during the summer months.

Not only a must visit for Art Deco lovers but for everyone with a thurst to learn more about the ordinary story of the Van Buuren family. With a entertaining movie, the museum takes you on trip into their life. During the visit, you receive a paper guide with explanations of each room detailing the artwork . But above all, there is a very welcoming atmosphere - the museum staff are super friendly and eager to share some other details. And, don't forget to get lost in the garden, which is beautiful any moment of the year.
