Create an itinerary including Praia de Pajucara
As the only urban beach where swimming is permitted, Praia de Pajucara is a must-see attraction in Maceió due to its natural pools. The soft white sands backed by palm trees offer a family-friendly place with gentle waves and shallow waters. You can shop for souvenirs, such as handmade baskets, lace, hammocks, and ceramics at the well-known craft market that is open most days. Weekends can become quite crowded, but there are many shaded places to relax and eat takeout from food vendors or restaurants serving lobster, shrimp, and moqueca--a fish stew.

The Pajuçara boardwalk is one of the most popular places for sightseeing and people watching in the city center, but you may have to say "No" to many people begging for money or trying to sell you something. You can charter a boat called a jaganda to ride out to the natural pools created by low tides that expose natural reef formations. These pools allow you to snorkel in the warm waters full of unusual plants and tropical fish swimming over soft, pink sands. Put Praia de Pajucara on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Maceio online journey planner.

  • Murky, seaweed filled beach with seaweed strewn over the sands. Once you get past the seaweed layer, it turns muddy. Crowded w dbags. Lots of trash, and not just in the water.

  • Just a typical urban beach, it was busy, but also a bit messy and perhaps dirty depending on the point of view. There are palm trees, loung chairs parasols and restaurant, but it lacks of the charm...
