Visit Zoo Pomerode, the first zoo established in southern Brazil. The zoo has about 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres) of developed space with another area double that size earmarked for future expansions. This fairly small zoo has a lot packed into it, totaling more than 1,100 animals representing more than 220 different species. Many of the species housed there are at risk of extinction in the wild so the zoo focuses on the conservation and reproduction of such species.
