Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro
Noted for its collection of over 6,500 plants from all over the globe, historic Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro also houses Brazil’s largest botanical library. Distributed over an area of 54 hectares (133 acres) and utilizing several large greenhouses, the garden’s collection shelters many endangered and threatened species. The site also includes an important research center and an impressive collection of some of Brazil’s rarest plants. Located at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, right below the right arm of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the garden is one of UNESCO’s protected biosphere reserves. Stop by to see over 140 species of bids, many of which have become accustomed to humans and are much easier to observe than in the wild. The staffs here are rude beyond description. I thought the place's plants would be a better draw, no. Regular plants and most area closed made trip here not good.

Beautiful, serene and peaceful, this botanical garden seems a bit derelict. I believe it is only an impression, created by the various winding paths paved in stone instead of asphalt, and the humidity which lends a green patina even to newer stonework. Overall, it is a great space, with beautiful local and foreign exhibits. The vistas keep changing and as you stroll through the garden you have opportunities to take the main road or less beaten paths, bringing you close to the beautiful trees and plants. A restful experience even if you walk for miles. Highly recommended.

Absolutely beautiful 200+ year old garden! We went spontaneous and saw a lot but you could easily spend a day here. The App cleverly has guided tours organized by the interest of your choice with estimated times to help you make the best of it. It's a great value for those who enjoy nature or are just looking for a relaxing tour option.
