Celebrated for its extraordinary white sands and exuberant coconut groves, Praia do Gunga offers the best of both worlds: a quiet inner beach and a bustling outer beach. The inner reef is quieter with soft white sands, small food and drink vendors, and calm waters. The outer reef is bustling with tourist activity, loud music, raging waves, many waterfront bar restaurants, and small shops selling handmade crafts. Praia do Gunga (Gungas Beach) has unique Maceió south coast positioning surrounded by high cliffs between Lagoa do Roteiro (Roteiro Lake) and the Atlantic Ocean. This gives the waters its signature turquoise color during low tide and its emerald green hue during high tide when the ocean waters meet the waters of the lake.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent equipment to go surfing, windsurfing, and jet skiing, or go on a boat tour beyond the reef. While none of the beaches in Brazil are private, access to this beach is private, but the coconut farm offers vehicle access for a fee. It's easier and more cost effective to get there by boat from Barra de São Miguel or via a tour guide company that transports you by bus or catamaran. The garbage on the beach sand, takes away from the beauty. With all the stores and business better care should be taken.
