Built between 1708 and 1723, Sao Francisco Church and Convent is celebrated for its exuberant interior decoration including an important repository of Baroque art. As you approach the façade, you'll see a large stone cross and volute columns influenced by Mannerist architecture. Inside, all the walls, pillars, vaults, and ceilings are covered by golden sculptures made from gilt woodwork and ornate paintings. Blue and white tiles called azulejo depicting scenes from the life of St Francis of Assisi cover the lower parts of the walls in the main chapel and transept. The Portuguese-Brazilian Baroque gilt woodwork that you'll see in this church is a perfect example of igreja dourada, or "golden church." Beautiful place. It’s nearby Pelourinho and great attraction. The entrance costs R$5 per visitor and the inside is magnificent. It shows how awesome Brazilian churches are. Definitely worth.

Igreja e convento de Sao Francisco De Asis is a highly recommended stop on your next visit to Pelourinho Salvador. It's stunning from the outside and lights up beautifully at night. The real beauty however is seen in the fine detailing and elaborate use of gold on the inside. The cost to enter is only R$5 / US$1( in March 2022 ), a price thats more than worth it. The pictures really don't do it justice. They don't provide tour guides so I would advise visiting as a part of a walking tour of pelourinho, to get details on the history. Definitely add it to your list of must do in salvador.
