The earliest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta, the catacombs display various tomb types, like the baldacchino tombs, which are free-standing, canopied burials with grand arches and pillars. Other decorations within the catacombs include illustrations and written messages. Be advised that the catacombs are very dark, with steep stairs and uneven flooring. Good video to start. Good museum with additional satellite areas to read. You can explore the catacombs on your own. There are many. The only thing we wished is that they highlighted points of interest inside the catacombs. They may also need to worry a bit about alge. We enjoyed the site. We spent 2 hrs and saw everything. Most people will do it faster.
