Beautiful temple. As a Catholic, I had never been to a Hindu Temple and it was a great experience, not once did I feel out of place. We were allowed to take pictures and video. It is amazing to find such a colorful place that brings so many people together.

Situtated in the heart of Little India, the temple is a distinctive landmark with its colourful and intricate statues. Dedicated to goddess Sri Veeramakaliamman, the temple was once known as “Soonambu Kambam Kovil” or “temple at the lime village” in Tamil. At that time, most of its faithful worked at lime kilns in the vicinity. During World War II, many people hid here when Japanese air raids took place. Remarkably, the temple and all its statues were unaffected by the bombings. Its latest renovation, completed in 2014, included the addition of a six-storey building with staff quarters, a multipurpose hall and a wedding hall.
