Each year more than half a million people enjoy the musical performances at Palace of Catalan Music, which was placed on the World Heritage List in 1997. Designed by architect Domenech i Montaner, this exquisitely ornamented structure was built between 1905 and 1908, and originally served as home to the Orfeo Catalá musical society. Widely regarded as a masterpiece of Catalan architecture, the building is a fine example of the Modernist style, featuring elements made of tiles, stones, and bricks. Try to attend a concert, but at the very least arrange to join a guided tour of the site’s famous auditorium, known for its blue-gold stained glass skylight and the sculpture of Wagner’s Valkyries. • Beautifully designed. Wherever you look, there is something of real beauty. We got to hear a rehearsal, and the acoustics are fabulous.

  • Went to see a concert here while in Barcelona. Was absolutely blown away by this place- so beautiful. The amount of time and care that went into creating this is astounding. Be prepared for lots of stairs if you're in the upper level like I was, but absolutely worth it as you are so close to that spectacular glass dome. Not a bad seat in the house, intimate, beautiful!
  • One of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen. The tile work is incredible and the stained glass artwork next level. It was well worth it to get a guided tour to understand the story of the 18 muses representing music from different parts of the world and the inspiration behind the building. I only wished the gift store had been open so I could have a keepsake.
