Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau
Discover early 20th-century modernist architecture at Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau. Operating as a fully functioning hospital until 2009, the building now houses a museum and cultural center and is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk the grounds to admire the ornate facades and impressive detailing of the structure, or take a tour of the hospital interior for an in-depth look at the building’s former function. Head down Avenida de Gaudí after your visit for prime photo opportunities of both the hospital and the famous Sagrada Familia church. A visit to Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Barcelona vacation planner to plot your vacation.

This place is a feast for the eyes for anyone who appreciates the art nouveau style. Most of the original ornamentation is well preserved, and holds up even after closer ocular inspection. This old hospital is juxtaposed by a new modern hospital looming behind it, allowing for profound observations. It is also a museum, which is kinda cool.

This is one of my most favorite places to visit in Barcelona. It is less known but well worth the tour. The art and philosophie behind the architecture and design is spectacular. I look forward to returning on my next visit and spending more time.
