Located on the island of Ilha Upaon-Acu, state capital Sao Luis represents the largest city in Maranhao.
Centro Histórico and Palacio dos Leoes are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visit Calhau Beach and Aracagi Beach for some beach relaxation. Venture out of the city with trips to Fronhas maranhence (in Raposa) and Sao Jose de Ribamar (Banho Beach & Panaquatira Beach). The adventure continues: explore the activities along Lagoa da Jansen, kick back and relax at Meio Beach, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Igreja da Se, and stroll through Praia Sao Marcos.

Sao Paulo to Sao Luis is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and train. Traveling from Sao Paulo in April, things will get somewhat warmer in Sao Luis: highs are around 36°C and lows about 28°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Barreirinhas.

Most visitors consider Barreirinhas little more than a convenient base for exploring the nearby national park, yet the town's sandy beaches and picturesque riverside setting make it a rewarding destination in and of itself.

There's still lots to do: explore the activities along Rio Preguicas, see what you can catch with Espirito de Aventura, visit a coastal fixture at Preguicas (Mandacaru) Lighthouse, and hit the best photo ops around with an inspiring photography tour.

Tutóia is a municipality in the state of Maranhão in the Northeast region of Brazil.The municipality felipe gatão contains part of the Delta do Parnaíba Environmental Protection Area, created in 1996. On the 18th (Mon), enjoy the sand and surf at Arpoador Beach and then kick back and relax at Barra Beach. On your second day here, tour the pleasant surroundings at Pequenos Lencois Beach and then kick back and relax at Amor Beach.
