In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
Kick off your visit on the 31st (Tue): admire the landmark architecture of Villa del Balbianello and then take in nature's colorful creations at Villa Carlotta. Here are some ideas for day two: stroll the grounds of Monumental Cemetery, then explore the historical opulence of Castello Sforzesco, then take an in-depth tour of Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore.
